Living Room- Update

Hope you all are having a great weekend.  This post was a much promised one for my friends..and I finally got around to clean my living room to click a few pictures.  Sharing the living room from my apartment.

This rug started it all.. you may have guessed my undying love for chevron patterns by now...

My plants on the window sill..... I miss having a balcony sometimes...

The reading nook...my sheepskin rug with floor cushions is quite a cozy corner for getting some reading done.

The bookshelf by the reading nook.  A fab consignment store find. The ceramic plate is a DIY project and so is the glass pumpkin. I made it at a glass blowing workshop 2 years back.

More knicks and knacks collected over the years...

My abstract painting in the backdrop. The little blue pillow cover is a DIY project made by my lovely sister in law with felt flowers.

and here is how it all looks together.  The wall that I call my "gallery"...wall decals occupy most the wall on the entry way on the left.

Hope you all liked it...my warm little cozy place... I call home.  Let me know when you are coming over for a cup of chai.

Have a great rest of the weekend ..xoxo

DIY- Abstract painting

Although I have been experimenting with different art mediums for over a decade or so..I have never used acrylic paints before * very lame*. I guess I was always the "use oils of canvas" kind of a person.   But recently  I noticed that acrylics were used more often and  of course why not.... it doesn't take a million years like oils to dry up....so you can paint.. frame and get your painting on the wall.... in a span of a week...

So I took a trip to Michaels and bought myself some acrylic paints. I wanted to start with experimenting with using layers of paint in an abstract art form and see for myself , how well the colors mix up compared to oils....

Below is my experiment.... and I am pretty pleased with it too..Take a look..... TAAADAAA..

Still have to find an apt place for it... but for now I think it looks perfect here !!!
 Happy Labour Day Weekend!!!

Love for Chevron- DIY canvas

Chevron prints are so in vogue these days....wall papers...pillows...skirts...wall art...Just about everywhere.  I finally squeezed out the time to DIY  chevron on canvas.

Tell me what you think of this....

I started out with painting my entire white canvas in shades of sapphire blue, green and yellow leaving a few white spaces in between so that the chevron strips would stand out .

Next, I began with my chevron pattern.... It was such a pain I tell you, to get all that alignment right ! Approximation at its best..:P

Once all the tape was in order,  I got all my supplies together and headed outdoors to spray paint my canvas with Krylon GOLD!!

I waited for about 5-6 mints in between each coat of gold ..with a total of 3 coats.  Once it got all dried up gently removed the tape...revealing beautiful GOLD strips..

and here's the final look of my canvas... I think I am going to make this wall as my very own little gallery... a cozy little corner....

What you do think of my gallery... and my chevron-DIY canvas... !!!

Strei...the women.

The Strié is a popular form of faux painting using glaze and paint brushes to create a soft natural striped texture. When I read about it, I instantly fell in love with it and wanted to try it right away... but paint what...?? ..Incidentally "strei" in Hindi means women, I somehow wanted to put both these words and meanings into one painting and call my collection "Strei- the women"......

Take a look..

I have highlighted two aspects in these paintings.  One is the "sindoor"  and "bindi",  popularly significant with married women in India. and the other being the chandelier earrings... because we are so famous for all our bling bling... :)

I have plans of making a entire collection with different Indian accessories along with incorporating Strei in it. Hope you all liked it...xoxo.

My maiden one...

As this is my first ever post on my blog ,I thought of starting it on a positive note...with loads of positive energy. Hence the mention of Lord Buddha...and Bamboo..

In my profession it is often hard to find time for the real things you would love to do ;).....and then in November last year, when I  fractured my foot, I was under house arrest, as getting used to being on crutches took forever.  Moreover, I was  scared that I might break the other foot while crossing the road or getting on the bus.. :P   Hence this pent up energy for creativity was put to better use.

Hopefully I will paint more and you guys can see more of it....
